UPDATE: On March 9, York Regional Police said Jacob Wallace was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and arson. Badger remains wanted, and police urged him to turn himself in.

Police are searching for two teenagers who are wanted on Canada-wide warrants related to fatal shootings that happened in Vaughan and Etobicoke earlier this year.

Sergio Lopes, 65, from Richmond Hill, was shot and killed on Jan. 26 in a commercial plaza in Vaughan, while Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, 37, from Brampton, lost his life less than two weeks later at the Woodbine shopping centre.

Authorities say Isaiah Thomas Badger, 19, is wanted for first-degree murder linked to both shootings. Jacob Wallace, also 19, is specifically wanted for the murder of Lopes in Vaughan.

The suspects are considered armed and dangerous, according to York Region police.

“It’s shocking to me that we’re standing here with two 19-year-olds wanted for first-degree murder,” said York police Det. Jonathan Nauman during a joint news conference with Toronto police on Tuesday.

Shooting Incidents Were Targeted

Lopes was shot multiple times around 1:08 p. m. on Jan. 26 as he exited his business in a commercial plaza in Vaughan, Nauman said.

“Mr. Lopez was a respected member of his community, a loving father and husband,” he said. “His loss was deeply felt.”

Nandakumar was fatally shot while sitting in his car at the Woodbine Shopping Centre parking lot on Feb. 7 around 3:26 p. m., noted Toronto police Det. Sandra Arruda.

“Those who knew him described him as kind, generous, and always willing to help others,” he said. “He maintained strong connections with others in the GTA.”

Police believe these shootings were targeted attacks.

“We don’t have a motive; our connection to both homicides seems to only be that we share the same suspect,” Arruda stated while noting that stolen vehicles were involved in both incidents.

If anyone has information regarding these cases, they’re encouraged to reach out to Toronto police or Crime Stoppers.
