The province’s tourism agency has included various buildings in Steeltown along with some Toronto eateries shown in the Crave production on its list of “notable movie and TV show locations in Ontario.”

The well-liked streaming series inspired by Nova Scotia romance novelist Rachel Reid’s books has joined a lineup of other productions filmed in the GTA and Hamilton, such as the Oscar-winning movie The Shape of Water, It horror franchise, plus shows like Suits, The Handmaid’s Tale, and The Boys.

Certain Hamilton restaurants featured in Heated Rivalry include upscale Italian spot Ciao Bella located in Corktown as well as Le Tambour Tavern on James St. N., while Joni Restaurant in The Annex and Lavelle’s rooftop setting downtown Toronto were also highlighted.

Historic sites, entertainment venues used for filming

Dundurn Castle overlooking Burlington Bay, First Ontario Concert Hall, along with the “Pink Tunnel” found on Ferguson Ave., plus Guelph’s Sleeman Centre – home base for the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm who are set to host the 2027 Memorial Cup – alongside Muskoka cottage country were all used as filming locations.

“While Destination Ontario wasn’t involved in producing Heated Rivalry, we expect that some of these locations could see a boost in interest and visits,” Destination Ontario communications manager Liisa Sefton shared with The Canadian Press.

“Film- and TV-inspired travel continues to grow and audiences frequently seek out real-world locations they’ve seen on screen.”

The show’s popularity keeps rising

Heated Rivalry was developed for television by Letterkenny co-creator Jacob Tierney. It airs on HBO’s Max streaming service in America. The show focuses on rival hockey players who start developing feelings for each other.

It seems that there will be a second season since it has been renewed. Stars Hudson Williams (who portrays Shane Hollander) and Connor Storrie (Ilya Rozanov) even presented at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards held in Los Angeles.

The rise of Heated Rivalry’s popularity has led to theme nights at NHL games along with dance parties, trivia events, and watch gatherings all over Canada.
