Durham Police have taken into custody several youths, the youngest being just 12 years old, after they were spotted carrying firearms in the Oshawa Centre shopping mall on Wednesday evening.

Officers responded to a report of an armed individual at the Oshawa Centre shortly before 8 p. m. Wednesday when security noticed three young people with hidden handguns.

The Tactical Support Unit, along with front-line officers, located the suspects and arrested them without any issues. A search revealed that two imitation guns were concealed on the youths.

The three suspects, aged 12, 13, and 14, were apprehended but later released to their parents without charges.

Additionally, they received formal trespass notices that prohibited them from entering the Oshawa Centre again.

If you have any information regarding this incident, please reach out to the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1705.
