A death investigation has started south of St. Thomas, as provincial police report that a person was discovered lying by the side of Sunset Drive early Sunday morning in Central Elgin.

Emergency services were called to the location between Southdale Line and John Wise Line at around 12:42 a. m.

Paramedics on site performed life-saving efforts and took the unidentified woman to the hospital in St. Thomas, where she was declared dead, according to police.

No details about her age were given.

“The investigation is in its early stages, and residents of the area should expect to continue to see an increased police presence,” police said in a brief statement.

Sunset Drive was temporarily closed through that area but has since reopened.
