Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 10-year-old child found in a Barrie residence on Wednesday.

Officers reported they were called for a wellness check around 3 p.m. at a home located on Bayview Drive near Little Avenue.

In a statement released Thursday, authorities mentioned that they also discovered the child’s mother at the scene. The woman, who is 47 years old, was taken to a hospital, according to police.

Investigators assure that there is no threat to public safety.
