Barrie Police say they’ll maintain a strong presence in the Bayview Drive and Little Avenue area on Friday and Saturday as they look into the passing of a 10-year-old child on New Year’s Eve. Officers arrived at a townhouse complex on Bayview Drive around 3 p.m. Wednesday for a well-being check. Inside the unit, they found a deceased 10-year-old child. The child’s 47-year-old mother was also discovered in the home and has been taken to a local hospital, where she is still receiving care. Authorities state there’s no risk to public safety. Among those still present are members of the Barrie Police Major Crime Unit, which is handling the criminal investigation, along with the Forensic Identification Unit. “Due to the nature of the incident and to respect the privacy of the family involved, updates will only be provided as the investigation permits,” Barrie Police concluded in a news release.
