As the celebrations for the New Year echoed throughout the GTA, hospitals marked the start of 2026 in a quieter fashion, with most of this year’s first babies arriving just after midnight, and they were all baby boys.

Mississauga

Credit Valley Hospital celebrated Mississauga’s first newborn of 2026 shortly after midnight.

Baby boy Waris made his debut at 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 1 to new parents, according to Trillium Health Partners. Both mother and baby are reported to be healthy and doing well.

The family shared a short message via the hospital, stating that the care team was “amazing” and that they “couldn’t have been in better hands.”

Brampton

Brampton Civic Hospital announced its first baby of 2026 right at midnight.

Mom Jasveer Kaur and dad Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal from Brampton welcomed a baby boy weighing six pounds, 12.82 ounces.

William Osler Health System congratulated the family as well as all parents celebrating new arrivals during the New Year.

The family also received a gift basket filled with baby goodies from Osler’s Gift Shop.

North York

Northern York General Hospital greeted its first baby of 2026 right at midnight.

Proud parents Vivian Omeziri and Nelson Omeziri celebrated their little one, Olana Alora, marking an exciting start to the year for them.
