Authorities report that a man from Brampton has been charged with several gun-related offenses after a bullet struck a residence during target practice over the weekend.
The OPP states that officers from the Quinte West detachment responded to a call at a home located on Foxboro-Stirling Road, roughly 100 kilometers west of Kingston.
According to investigators, a rifle bullet hit the house, and it was found that someone had been target shooting at a nearby property when the incident occurred.
The OPP announced that Kandiah Varathakaran, 50, from Brampton, has been arrested in connection with this case.
Police indicate that Varathakaran is facing charges including reckless discharge of firearm – life or safety, careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and mischief endangering life.
The suspect has since been released from custody and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 7 to respond to the charges against him.
“The OPP reminds all firearm owners that they are responsible for ensuring firearms are used safely and in accordance with the law,” police said following the arrest. “Proper backstops, target placement, and an awareness of the surrounding area are essential to preventing potentially tragic incidents.”
