The municipal election results from Monday night have been confirmed and accepted. Although the numbers indicate a rise in voter participation in Brampton, they still fell short of the provincial average.

On Friday, the city announced that all results from Monday’s election have been verified and approved by the City Clerk and Returning Officer, showing a turnout of 28.77 percent from an eligible voter pool of 428,012.

This marks an increase of 35,978 voters compared to the 2022 municipal election in Brampton, where just over 24.5 percent of the city’s 354,884 eligible voters participated, down from 34.5 percent in the elections held in 2018.

While this year’s turnout surpassed that of 2022, it remained more than 10 percent below the provincial average of 36 percent for eligible voters casting their ballots across Ontario.

The official outcomes confirm what INSAUGA Canada reported on election night – every sitting Brampton politician who sought re-election successfully won their race. Additionally, two newcomers will join them to form the next Brampton City Council.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown smoothly secured a third term with nearly 55 percent of over 120,000 votes cast according to official election night figures.

Out of Brampton’s ten council seats, seven councillors aimed to retain their positions on council for another four years and succeeded – Paul Vicente, Michael Palleschi, Martin Medeiros, Rowena Santos, Navjit Kaur Brar, Dennis Keenan and Dennis Keenan.

Former Wards 7 and 8 City and Regional Coun. Pat Fortini left a seat vacant when he chose to run for Caledon council but was unsuccessful; City Coun. Rod Power ran for and won the position that Fortini left open.

The new councillors are Taran Chahal (a past Conservative Party candidate for Brampton-Centre in the upcoming federal election) representing Wards 7 and 8 and Sukhman Sangha (who defeated former Coun. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon in his attempt to reclaim his seat following allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment after losing in the last election) for Wards 9 and 10.

The newly-elected Brampton City Council will be sworn in on November 16th with a Special Meeting scheduled for November 18th to appoint three elected City Councillors as additional representatives on Peel Regional Council.
