A 37-year-old man from Brampton has been charged with careless driving after a dump truck hit overhead power lines in the southern part of Barrie.
Barrie police report that the incident took place around 4 p. m. last Wednesday (Sept. 23), on Lockhart Road after the dump truck left a construction site with its box still raised.
The raised box of the truck made contact with overhead hydro lines, causing live wires to fall and creating a safety risk in the area.
This collision also led to a power outage nearby, and the driver was charged with careless driving. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police are reminding operators of commercial vehicles to make sure their vehicles and equipment are secured before driving, especially in areas where there are overhead lines.
