Firefighters Respond to Explosion in Abandoned House

Firefighters in London responded to a “reported explosion” that prompted multiple 911 calls on Sunday, according to officials.

Around 6 p. m. on Sunday, the London Fire Department reported that crews were dispatched to the vicinity of 80 Base Line Rd. W., close to where Wharncliffe Road South intersects with Commissioners Road West.

Fire officials mentioned that firefighters and police investigated the scene and found a basement fire in an unoccupied house at that address. “There were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished,” officials said.

Firefighters tackle house fire in east London

Crews were called out on Sunday afternoon due to a house fire on Tweedsmuir Avenue, officials indicated.

When they arrived, firefighters encountered “heavy black smoke (and) zero visibility” while dealing with the basement fire, as stated by London Fire Department officials in a social media update. Tweedsmuir Avenue is situated northeast of the Hamilton Road-Highbury Avenue intersection.

Officials noted there was “extensive damage,” estimating it at over $200,000. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, they confirmed.
