Get to Know the Mayoral Candidates

Five individuals are running for the position of mayor in Burlington.

Keith Demoe, Lisa Kearns, Marianne Meed Ward, Rory Nisan, and Yugalkeesor Ramdhonee will be on the ballot this upcoming fall.

Let’s take a closer look at each candidate and what they plan to focus on if elected on Oct. 26.

How long have you lived in Burlington?

I’ve lived here for the last 15 years and even went to high school (Assumption) in Burlington.

Previous political experience

I haven’t held public office before. I chaired a QS9000 Automotive Quality Standard Group previously and have had many management roles throughout my career.

What are your priorities if elected?

I plan to establish a Burlington business recruitment page(s) on the city website by the end of Q1 2027. This will help local businesses connect with talent for contract or staffing work/projects. Both companies and residents can register, with residents verified through the voter list.

This initiative aims to include all demographics but especially provide younger people an opportunity to gain experience in their fields. In my first year, I’ll also outline plans for an annual Burlington business trade show inviting companies from across Ontario.

By Q2’s end, I’ll set up an address where homeless individuals can file taxes and apply for Canadian Dental Care Plan benefits. They’ll be able to receive benefits owed over the years (like Trillium & GST) along with dental care.

I aim to collaborate with Halton’s new chair to create a better housing development plan for both Halton Region and Burlington City. The city won’t fund developers or waive development fees under any circumstances as these funds are needed for surrounding infrastructure; taxpayers won’t cover those costs.
