A man from Whitby is now in custody, facing charges of making threats and hate-related offenses following an investigation into anti-Muslim remarks made online.
The charges were filed four days after Durham Regional Police prevented a threat to attack a synagogue in Whitby, and just three days after shots were fired at a synagogue in Belleville while worshippers were inside observing Yom Kippur.
On Wednesday, investigators from the Durham Regional Police Hate Crime Unit concluded their investigation and arrested Sean Farro, 57. He allegedly spread anti-Muslim hatred on social media using the name ‘Sean Strife’.
Farro has been charged with offenses motivated by hatred-uttering threats and inciting hatred in public.
He will remain in custody until his bail hearing.
