The Ontario government has revealed funding for three initiatives in the Northumberland-Peterborough South area that are designed to boost rural economic growth.
David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, announced these investments through the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) program, which is a $20-million provincial effort aimed at aiding local businesses, rural workers, and long-term economic planning.
The largest allocation amounts to $143,169.50 for Port Hope’s Building Resilience: Manufacturing & Energy Sector Readiness project.
Clarington will get $13,974 to support its Orono Economic Development Strategy and Marketing Plan.
Oat & Mill is also set to receive $10,000 for updating its marketing materials.
“Through the Rural Ontario Development Program, we are investing in initiatives that support small businesses, strengthen municipalities, and help our communities plan for long-term growth,” said Piccini.
According to Rural Affairs Minister Lisa Thompson, this program aims to assist rural communities in seeking local economic development opportunities and laying the groundwork for future expansion.
In total across Ontario, the province states it is investing over $5.5 million into 116 projects through the first intake of this program.
