The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) recently presented its latest Decade Award.
These awards, which honor the ABCA’s 80th anniversary in 2026, celebrate the contributions of local land trusts that are taking care of the gifts from generous and visionary donors. This marks the eighth of nine awards being given by the ABCA this year.
This most recent award focuses on the 2010s, with recipients including the Thames Talbot Land Trust (TTLT), Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC), Lambton Wildlife Inc. (LWI), and Nature Conservancy of Canada. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 15 at TTLT’s Joany’s Woods property.
Land trusts are non-profit organizations that acquire land or interests in land, such as conservation easements, aimed at conservation, access to nature, and fostering community connections. They safeguard these lands and easements for future generations to enjoy.

1950s – Ontario Parks – For founding and managing Pinery Provincial Park.
1960s – Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (previously Department of Lands and Forests) for a lasting local impact through reforestation efforts, especially via the Agreement Forest Program.
1970s – Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation – Celebrating six decades of supporting projects within the watershed community since ABCF was established in 1974.
