The outage that occurred early this morning has no known cause yet.
The Ontario Provincial Police report that the province’s 9-1-1 system is mostly back up and running after some outages were noted early Thursday.
The OPP confirms that its Provincial Communications Centres throughout Ontario are now receiving and handling 9-1-1 calls again.
The problems began around 4 a. m., which led police to advise anyone needing emergency help to call the OPP’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
According to the OPP, that line was fully functional during the outage, allowing officers to continue responding to calls for assistance.
Officials say there may still be occasional disruptions. If someone can’t reach the OPP through 9-1-1, they should use their non-emergency number instead. Residents in areas not covered by OPP can contact their local police service using their non-emergency number.
The OPP also wants to remind everyone not to call 9-1-1 just to check if it’s working properly.
Police expressed gratitude to telecommunications companies for quickly restoring the 9-1-1 service.
