A woman has died, and a man is now in police custody following an event at a residence in southeast London on Tuesday, which authorities are treating as a femicide case.
Emergency services were alerted to a house on Chelton Road in the Summerside area, close to Highbury and Commissioners roads, at about 6:30 p. m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman with life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to the hospital by paramedics but sadly passed away there.
Mandeep Singh, 41, from London, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Singh is still in custody and was due to appear in court on Wednesday.

The two individuals were reportedly in a romantic relationship, according to police.
Other family members were present during the incident; however, no further injuries have been reported by authorities.
Several neighbors indicated that the couple resided at 685 Chelton Road. They mentioned that the couple had two young children and lived with the woman’s mother.
Some witnesses stated they saw the children and their grandmother hurriedly leave the home before police arrived that evening.
“We saw an old lady coming out shouting and hitting herself, with two [children],” remarked Sam Awdi, who lives across the street.
“I feel bad. I’ve lived in this city for 40 years but never witnessed something like that before,” he added.

Police tape cordoned off both the house and front yard along with a significant portion of the sidewalk nearby.
“We’ve never experienced this kind of situation here,” said neighbor Anto Vibin Charles.
A lot of residents describe Chelton Road as peaceful and family-friendly.
“Even at that house, those kids usually play outside,” Vibin Charles shared while recalling watching their grandmother teaching them how to ride bikes over summer break.
Numerous neighbors mentioned that the family generally kept to themselves and was quiet overall.

“We hear shouting every now and then but I can’t say for sure it’s from that house,” Awdi said.</pp

This tragic event marks London’s first femicide case for 2026; it also counts as its fourth homicide this year.
“Hearing about this news breaks my heart deeply; we thought maybe such an incident wouldn’t happen this year during September,” expressed Jennifer Dunn, the executive director of London’s Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC).</pp
“It reminds us-based on our daily work-that intimate partner violence against women continues significantly within our community.”</pp
The LAWC provides advocacy, counseling, and support services for women facing intimate partner violence , sexual assault , exploitation , trafficking, and other forms of non-state torture , as per their website details.</pp
Dunn noted they’ve consistently seen people reaching out for assistance over recent years.</pp
“Women need comprehensive support options tailored specifically based upon whatever path towards justice looks like ; we remain incredibly busy ,” she explained.
The pandemic caused some changes just like everyone else experienced , but now we’re seeing its effects reflected through heightened trauma levels women endure.”
