KINGSTON, ONTARIO – Authorities in Kingston are alerting locals about a food delivery scam where suspects have swapped victims’ bank cards and gotten hold of their PINs.
According to police, this organized scam seems to involve two individuals – one acting as a food delivery driver and the other pretending to be a customer.
In several cases, one suspect approached a victim and said they were having trouble paying for their food delivery due to an issue with their card.
The suspect then handed cash to the victim and asked them to use their bank card on the delivery driver’s PIN reader.
Investigators report that the victim’s bank card was subsequently switched with another card, which was used for cash withdrawals, depositing fraudulent cheques, and making purchases at stores.
Police advise that individuals should never share their bank card or PIN with anyone or enter their PIN into a payment device when they’re uncertain about who is operating it.
