THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into the deaths of a man and woman following a crash after they tried to escape from the Ontario Provincial Police in South Frontenac early this morning.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

Shortly after midnight on Sept. 7, 2026, an officer approached a male driver sitting in a parked vehicle after police received reports about a suspicious car that was later discovered to be stolen. The driver took off and soon crashed into something on Bedford Road, close to Salmon Lake Road. Both the male driver and his female passenger were found dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

Three investigators, along with two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist, are working on this case.

The SIU is asking anyone who might have information related to this investigation, including video or photos, to get in touch with the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu. on. ca/en/appeals. php

Bedford Road in South Frontenac is currently shut down between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane while the investigation continues.
