The Special Investigations Unit reported that initial details suggest an Ontario Provincial Police officer first approached a man sitting in a parked car shortly after midnight on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, after receiving reports about a suspicious vehicle.
The SIU later confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.
The man then drove away from the police and crashed his vehicle soon after on Bedford Road near Salmon Lake Road.
Both the male driver and female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The SIU stated that their identities have not been revealed yet.
In another statement, OPP mentioned that officers from its Frontenac Detachment had responded to reports of the suspicious vehicle on Bedford Road shortly after 11 p. m. Sunday.
Officers found the car and tried to pull it over, but it fled the area.
A short while later, OPP reported that officers discovered the vehicle in a wooded area with both occupants deceased.
The SIU has assigned three investigators – two forensic experts and one collision reconstructionist – to look into this case.
Bedford Road remains closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane as authorities continue their investigation.
The SIU is asking anyone who may have information, video footage, or photographs related to this incident to reach out to them.
