September 15, 1955 – July 8, 2026
It is with great sorrow that we share the news of Wanda Lee Ewachow’s passing at the age of 70.
Wanda was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan as the oldest of six children to Steve and Eileen Ewachow. She took on a nurturing role with her siblings, raising them with love and care. The family moved around, spending time in Ontario and Quebec before finally settling in Toronto, where Wanda completed her high school education. After exploring different careers and educational opportunities across Toronto, Ottawa, and Canada’s West Coast, she arrived in Thunder Bay in 1988 with her trumpet and her firstborn son Miko. In Thunder Bay, she lovingly raised her two sons, Miko and Gabriel.
Wanda lived her life full of kindness, strength, and warmth. Her door was always open; her home was filled with delicious home-cooked meals for everyone who visited. No one needing help ever left empty-handed. She found joy in books, music, and art-she was a talented editor but often joked that if she’d had more time, she would have loved to be a poet capable of “stringing two thoughts together.” She wasn’t afraid to call out political nonsense; her independent thinking along with integrity helped guide her through many challenges.
As her boys grew older, Wanda went back to school and started working full-time again. After undergoing major heart surgery in 2020, she retired from IFNA to focus on healing and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Wanda is survived by sons Miko and Gabriel (Brittany), as well as beloved grandchildren Parker, Emmett, Ashton and Hope; extended family Dannie, Addison, and Neveah. She will be missed deeply by siblings Nancy, Kate, Sandra, Karen, Stephen along with their families as well as numerous cousins from the prairie region. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have offered support through love and prayers during this tough time. A celebration of life is set for September 20; RSVPs can be sent to [email protected]
