People living in parts of Renfrew County and the Pontiac Regional County Municipality should expect to see more military activity over the next few days as members of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command carry out regular training exercises in the area.
As per a notice from the Canadian Armed Forces, these training activities are set to happen in various locations from May 21 through May 26.
The exercises will begin in the Petawawa region and at Pembroke and Area Airport on May 21 and 22. Following that, training will take place near Portage-du-Fort and Chenaux Dam on May 23 and 24. The activities will then shift to Sheenboro, including movement along the Ottawa River, on May 25 and 26.
Officials advise that residents might see an uptick in military and civilian vehicle traffic, small drones flying low, and military personnel with firearms during this time. Sounds related to explosives and blank gunfire may also be heard, especially at night.
The training will also include military helicopters, which could be audible even from a distance away from the exercise sites.
The military has stated that they’ll work to minimize any disturbances for the public while ensuring safety throughout these exercises.
Canadian Special Operations Forces Command expressed gratitude towards residents and community members for their ongoing support and patience during this training period.
