WHITBY, ONT. – A brand new training tower is taking shape at fire headquarters for Whitby Fire and Emergency Services.
Situated at 111 Mc Kinney Dr., this new facility aims to equip firefighters with the skills needed for various types of buildings and emergency situations they might face in the community, according to a release, offering hands-on training.
One side of the tower is crafted to look like a two-storey residential house, while other sides will mimic a downtown streetscape, a high-rise building, and an industrial area.
The construction is moving along well, as noted in the release, with completion expected later this year.
Significant work on the burn rooms and specialized training props is already in progress, with remaining tasks focused on installing final safety equipment, conducting inspections, and securing certifications before the tower goes into use.
This project comes during a significant year for Whitby Fire and Emergency Services as it marks their 175th anniversary.
