Edwin Harvey Kivi, age 87, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026.
Born in Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, Edwin grew up in Silver Mountain. He started working in bush camps when he was young and later spent 25 years as an equipment operator for the City of Thunder Bay before retiring in 1991.
In 1963, he married Sisko Kivi (née Mannisto), who was his soulmate. Together they enjoyed fifty wonderful years of marriage that focused on family, hard work, and love until Sisko’s passing in 2013.
Edwin’s happiest moments were those spent with family and friends. He loved fishing and always found projects to keep himself occupied. For many years, he could be found at the 55 Plus Centre playing pool and sharing stories. People will remember him for his steady nature, sharp sense of humor, and profound love for his family.
He is survived by his son Eric Kivi (Niki); daughter Marlene Koskineimi (Richard); grandchildren Charlie Kivi (Anneliese), Michelle Kivi (Richard), Mariah Koskineimi; and his beloved great-granddaughter Lilah Kivi.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the management and staff of Chartwell Hilldale Retirement Residence, the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and all the healthcare professionals who provided caring support to Edwin throughout the years.
As per Edwin’s wishes, there won’t be a funeral service.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Hilldale Lutheran Church on Friday, September 18th, 2026 at 1:00 p. m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hilldale Lutheran Church, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Even though he’s no longer with us, Edwin’s spirit lives on through his family’s love for him, the friendships he valued deeply, and all the lives he impacted during his eighty-seven years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Please sign the online condolences at everestofthunderbay. com
