A man from Mississauga is facing charges after police looked into claims of cocaine distribution near Niagara Falls.
On Tuesday, two search warrants were carried out in Welland and Thorold, leading to the seizure of over $100,000 worth of suspected cocaine and almost $50,000 in cash by the authorities.
The raids, executed by officers from the street crime unit of Niagara Regional Police, also resulted in the arrest of a Mississauga man and a woman from Welland, according to police reports.
The investigation kicked off in July when detectives began probing a man’s suspected cocaine sales in St. Catharines, which is just outside Niagara Falls.
The execution of the two search warrants on Tuesday led to police recovering:
Nearly 1,084 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $100,000. $48,105 in Canadian cash along with a small amount of U. S. currency.
Ismail Ahmed, 30 years old from Mississauga, faces charges including:
Possession of Schedule 1 substance for trafficking (cocaine) – two counts. Possession of property obtained through crime valued over $5,000. Impersonation for property interest (fraud).
The accused remains detained and is set to appear at a bail hearing on Wednesday in St. Catharines court.
Chantal Fournier, 35 years old from Welland, has been charged with possession of property obtained through crime valued over $5,000. She was released but has yet to have her future court date scheduled as per police information.
The investigation is ongoing.
