Warm temperatures are hanging around southern Ontario as the meteorological summer wraps up, with many areas experiencing above-normal heat.

Daytime highs are hitting between 28-30°C in places like Hamilton and Windsor, while the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is expected to see mid-to-upper 20s.

DON’T MISS: Summer hangs on as warmth prevails across Canada in September

However, high humidity is making it feel like the 40s from London to Windsor, adding to the discomfort and increasing the chance of thunderstorms each day.

Wednesday is set to have the highest risk for storms, with lots of moisture in the atmosphere keeping things muggy. Storms could bring heavy rain, strong winds that may cause damage, and large hail. There’s also a slight chance of an isolated tornado.

Make sure to stay tuned to changing weather conditions and check for any local warnings.

Wednesday: Potential for Strong Storms and Isolated Supercells

The threat of severe thunderstorms increases on Wednesday across southern Ontario, with risks including damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

Early morning might see heavy rain throughout the region, especially in northern GTA and along Highway 401, possibly affecting your commute. There’s a chance for severe thunderstorms that could deliver heavy downpours and hail up to quarter-sized.

A favorable setup for severe weather will be present due to high atmospheric moisture levels combined with stronger upper-level winds and significant wind shear (variations in wind speed and direction at different heights).

A sharp cold front moving in from Michigan will serve as a strong catalyst for storm development.

The risks include torrential rain, damaging winds, large hail (larger than golf balls), and a potential tornado. Expect clusters of storms or bowing segments along with isolated supercells as well.

Storm activity may kick off with prefrontal rain from GTA down towards London early Wednesday. Thunderstorms are likely to develop over cottage country and Quebec by early afternoon.

The cold front will push severe storms southward through Barrie into the GTA by late afternoon or evening. Additional storms might affect areas near London around dinner time.

The timing isn’t entirely clear yet but conditions should settle overnight into early Thursday, putting an end to the storm threats.

Stay connected with The Weather Network for ongoing updates about Ontario’s forecast.
