The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up for a crucial series against the Cleveland Guardians in 2026. At this moment, they’ve shared some news regarding pitcher Edgar Gallegos.

September marks a fresh start for the Blue Jays after wrapping up their best month yet this season. The first game of their series against the Guardians kicks off on Tuesday night, with Spencer Miles set to pitch against Gavin Williams from Cleveland.

You can catch the game at 6:40 PM Eastern Time, which is 4:40 PM Mountain Time.

The team announced Gallegos’ release just before starting their series.

According to reports from Mi LB Transactions Log, it was stated: “FCL Blue Jays released RHP Edgar Gallegos.”

Gallegos is a young pitcher at just 20 years old. Standing at six feet five inches and weighing 198 pounds, he has spent three seasons within this organization.

A Closer Look at Edgar Gallegos

The Blue Jays signed Gallegos to a minor league contract back on March 24th, 2024.

He spent his first two years playing in the Dominican Summer League. In his latest season in 2026, Gallegos appeared in fourteen games for the Florida Complex League and made one appearance with Dunedin.

The statistics indicate that he didn’t quite find his footing as a pitcher.

In those fourteen FCL games, he notched sixteen strikeouts over twenty point two innings pitched. Unfortunately, his WHIP (2.08) and ERA (9.15) reflect struggles due to numerous hits allowed (36), earned runs (21), and home runs (6).

The strikeout numbers aren’t enough to create much excitement either. Not being able to keep runs from scoring really stands out as an issue for Gallegos.

Will Edgar Gallegos Return to Toronto?

However, there might still be hope for Gallegos.

In his lone outing for Dunedin this season, he had a solid showing. He recorded two strikeouts while allowing just one hit over three innings pitched and managed to earn a save.

Though he hasn’t been dominating minor league hitters or showing standout velocity lately, it’s encouraging that he performed well under pressure when it mattered most.

Could there be a chance for him to come back? It seems like there could still be an opportunity down the line.

If anything from that one performance suggests potential worth exploring further.
