Three people from Ontario have been charged following what Halton Regional Police Service described as “a pair of suspicious fires” that occurred in Burlington, Ont., late last year.

On December 2, police reported they responded to a fire that caused minor damage to a residence on Lodi Road near Dundas Street and Walkers Line.

Two days later, authorities returned to the same location after another fire completely destroyed three unoccupied homes and damaged additional properties. The total damages were estimated at about $1.7 million.

In a news release on Friday, police announced they charged a 34-year-old resident from Ajax and a 40-year-old resident from Courtice with arson and property damage related to the first fire.

They also charged a 38-year-old Clarington resident along with the same 40-year-old for arson and endangering life concerning the second fire.

Police and firefighters were called out to tackle a blaze at a new housing development on Lodi Road in Burlington.

At that time, Burlington Fire Chief Dan Vanderlelie informed CBC Hamilton that at least 25 firefighters were involved in evacuating families from nearby homes and extinguishing the fires.

Halton police had already labeled these fires as “suspicious,” stating they were investigating alongside the Office of the Fire Marshal.

The three individuals charged over these incidents are currently being held by police as they await their bail hearing.
