Ontario’s government is marking another step forward in connecting the Ring of Fire region to the provincial highway network.
On Monday, construction officially began on the Marten Falls Community Access Road, which is one of four road segments aimed at providing year-round access to Marten Falls and Webequie First Nations.
This Community Access Road will link Marten Falls First Nation to Painter Lake Road and Anaconda Road to the south, connecting them to Aroland First Nation and existing highways. To the north, it will connect with the Northern Road Link; that route will lead directly into the Ring of Fire and towards both the Webequie Supply Road and Webequie First Nation.

The Marten Falls Community Access Road will stretch 184 kilometers and is expected to be completed by November 2031, which is four years earlier than originally planned.
With this latest work starting on the access road, construction has now begun on three out of four road segments; however, work on the Northern Road Link won’t start until spring 2028 but is intended to finish alongside the other segments.
