The Town of Tecumseh and the City of Windsor are working together to prepare for future investments with assistance from the provincial government.
Each municipality has received $50,000 from the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) program to help them plan for sustainable growth.
“The town is adding another $50,000 to hire a consultant who will collaborate with our local economic development teams, Invest Windsor Essex and the Chamber, to explore ways to expand Tecumseh’s economic base,” said Brian Hillman, Director of Development for the town.
The City of Windsor also obtained $50,000. This funding will support the creation of the Health and R& D District Master Plan aimed at attracting investment near the upcoming hospital.
“We understand that health will be a major sector in the future, especially with the new hospital being constructed, so we’re eager to continue this master planning process. As part of this effort, we’ll develop a foreign direct investment strategy focused on what types of companies we should attract in that area,” said Matt Johnson, Executive Director of Economic Development with the City of Windsor.
Through its initial intake of the ROD program, the province is putting over $5.5 million into 116 projects across rural Ontario.
“This investment will assist Windsor and Tecumseh in boosting our local economies and planning for future growth,” said Andrew Dowie, MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh. “I’m proud to partner with both Councils in bringing provincial support home and creating new opportunities for our communities.”
