MIAMI (AP) – Josh Sargent and Derrick Etienne Jr. scored goals in the second half just three minutes apart, leading Toronto FC to a 2-1 win over Inter Miami on Saturday night.
Both teams were scoreless until rookie Sargent found the net in the 59th minute to put Toronto ahead. Dániel Sallói and Etienne assisted on Sargent’s fourth goal. This marked Sallói’s seventh assist while Etienne picked up his third.
Etienne then scored his third of the season unassisted just three minutes later, extending Toronto’s lead to two goals, which helped them secure their first win in Miami.
Lionel Messi brought it back to 2-1 in the 82nd minute with his 14th goal this season and his impressive total of 64 goals in just 71 career appearances. Rodrigo De Paul and Maximiliano Falcón provided assists.
