A man from Miami has admitted to making online threats against U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U. S. State Department Special Envoy Kristi Noem, as announced by the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old, Jon Christopher Enriquez, posted three threatening messages on Twitter/X directed at the two officials on May 27. These messages included specific times when he claimed they would be executed.

“Secretary Rubio, I guess the only way that you are going to shut your mouth is through DEATH,” one of Enriquez’s posts stated.

Other posts said “Rubio AND Noem are to be executed at 16:00,” and “Rubio, Noem.. You have been found guilty of 18 USC Section 2384: Seditious Conspiracy. Both of you will be executed at 16:30. Best wishes to your future endeavors.”

Enriquez could face a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison for each of the three counts related to transmitting threats that he pleaded guilty to.

“Threatening to execute public officials is not political speech; it’s a federal crime,” said U. S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida. “Today’s guilty plea demonstrates that those who try to intimidate public servants or threaten them with violence will be quickly identified, prosecuted, and held accountable.”

As per the U. S. State Department, the Bureau of Diplomatic Security led the investigation into Enriquez, receiving support from various agencies including the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, City of Miami Police Department, and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
