172 break-and-enters over 31 days in Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario

In the past 31 days, there have been 172 break-and-enters reported in Mississauga and Brampton.

Peel Regional Police data shows that these incidents occurred between Dec. 17 and Jan. 17.

Mississauga experienced most of the break-ins, with 115 incidents, while Brampton had 57.

The map below illustrates where these events took place:

The statistics reveal that various locations were targeted:

79 homes, eight apartments, two residential garages or sheds, four more apartments, two restaurants, two construction sites, 21 stores and four offices; nine were categorized as “other,” while 41 were listed as “unidentified” businesses.

The most common hotspots for break-ins this month included:

Hurontario Street-four occurrences Matheson Boulevard-11 occurrences

As of Saturday, investigations are ongoing for the majority of these cases; currently, 160 remain open, seven have been resolved and five are still unsolved.

Residents should take precautions to secure their homes and reduce the risk of break-ins by following these police-recommended tips:

Keep shrubs and hedges around your property maintained to allow for clear lines of sight to all
accessible windows and doors. Ensure garage and screen doors are locked, even while at home. Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other’s properties. Consider installing a second locking device for windows and any sliding doors. INsauga’s Editorial Standards and Policies
