A branch of a Mississauga shawarma restaurant chain in Brampton has been shut down due to unpaid rent, but it may reopen once the debts are settled.

Landmarx Property Management Inc. has informed INsauga. com that they have ended the lease for the Lazeez Shawarma restaurant located at 12 Kennedy Road South in Brampton.

A notice on the door states that Lai Sing Company Limited owes “$6,545.58 plus all costs, including Bailiff Fees, locksmith, and any other fees associated with this termination.” This notice was posted on July 21.

A representative from Landmarx mentioned that the management company is collaborating with Lazeez’s head office to sort out the situation and hopes that Lazeez will be back in business soon.

Efforts to reach both the restaurant and Lazeez’s head office were unsuccessful.

: Restaurant chain with Canadian roots brings Middle Eastern flavours to Brampton

Proudly claiming its authentic Middle Eastern roots while being Canadian, Lazeez Shawarma has steadily grown since it opened in 2013. Starting in Mississauga, this restaurant chain now boasts 60 locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario.

While it’s not uncommon for restaurants to close due to unpaid rent, owing $6,545.58 is relatively low compared to other closures seen in Ontario.

In April, INsauga. com reported on a downtown Oshawa steakhouse that closed after landlords claimed nearly $70,000 was owed in back rent. In 2022, another case involved a Mississauga eatery shutting down over similar financial issues at www. insauga. com/27000-back-rent-owed-forces-mississauga-restaurant-to-close/.

The WORKS Craft Burger & Beer had operated for over ten years in Brampton but quietly closed its doors in 2024 after its landlord decided not to renew their lease with very short notice given to the franchise.

Lazeez operates ten locations within Brampton, including one currently listed as “temporarily closed” at Queen Street and Steeles Avenue.
