Police in Guelph are trying to identify several individuals after some reckless and unsafe actions resulted in injuries and charges during the University of Guelph’s homecoming festivities.

On Sept. 26, officers responded to multiple reports of items being thrown into crowds, people climbing buildings, as well as theft and vandalism at local businesses during the unofficial Guelph Homecoming street parties, mainly around Chancellors Way.

“Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate, but dangerous and unlawful behaviour cannot be dismissed as people simply having fun,” said Deputy Chief Steve Gill.

“Throwing objects into crowds, climbing buildings and damaging property can cause serious harm. Those who put others at risk must be held accountable.”

Police then shared several photos of individuals they wanted to talk to regarding the chaotic party.

As of Thursday afternoon, five individuals had been identified, and more photos were released.

Thanks to everyone who shared our post & provided information related to incidents that took place during Homecoming. With your help, we have identified several of the individuals. Police urged anyone who needed medical attention due to injuries from Guelph’s homecoming celebrations to come forward.

If anyone had property damaged during the event, they are also encouraged to reach out.

Guelph Mayor Cam Guthrie expressed his frustration with not only the obvious dangers but also with the expenses tied to this annual event.

Depending on the year, he mentioned that costs for the city have ranged from $10,000 to over $100,000.
