Summer is officially halfway through, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by joining in on the Toronto Caribbean Carnival this long weekend.
Just a heads up, the August Civic Holiday isn’t a designated fireworks day, and residents can only set off fireworks on their property if they have a permit from Toronto Fire Services.
Fireworks aren’t allowed in city parks or on beaches, balconies, streets, parking lots, or any other private properties. Canada’s Wonderland will have a fireworks display just before it closes at 9:45 p. m. on Sunday.
Caribbean Carnival
The biggest Caribbean Carnival in North America is happening this long weekend with tons of events around the city, including the Grand Parade taking place on Saturday.
Masqueraders and steelpan musicians will fill Lake Shore Boulevard for the annual parade, with millions tuning in from around the globe to watch live performers both in person and online.
The parade will kick off from Exhibition Place grounds and head west along Lake Shore before turning at Jameson Street and returning back to Exhibition.
Everyone’s welcome to join; most areas along the route are free to access.

Veld Music Festival
This weekend Downsview Park will be buzzing with electronic dance music as thousands gather for the Veld Music Festival.
Each day features a new theme starting with Y2K on Friday, followed by Enchanted Forest on Day 2 and wrapping up with Thunderdome on Sunday. There’ll also be interactive art installations and immersive experiences alongside performances.
Tickets are still available for single days or for the entire weekend. You can find an artist lineup on their website.
National Bank Open
Although Victoria Mboko won’t defend her title this year during the National Bank Open kicking off this weekend in Toronto, there’s plenty of Canadian talent participating.
The women’s tournament returns to town featuring Leylah Annie Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu, Kayla Cross, Rebecca Marino, Katherine Sebov and Cadence Brace.
The preliminary rounds of this nearly two-week tournament begin Saturday.
Toronto Food Truck Festival
Woodbine Park will be alive with food trucks serving up all kinds of cuisine you can imagine.
Admission is free! There’ll be local performers as well as live eating challenges throughout four days starting Friday at 5 p. m. until Monday evening.

Taste of India Festival
Nathan Phillips Square hosts North America’s largest food festival this weekend.
This year’s Taste of India Festival marks its ninth anniversary organized by School of Flavours featuring entertainment acts, authentic Indian dishes, art displays, and unforgettable experiences.

Scarborough Ribfest
If you haven’t had enough ribs yet this summer stop by Thomson Park for one of GTA’s last ribfests this year. The grills start cooking up delicious food Friday at 11 a. m., running until Monday evening at 9 p. m.

Line 6 late opening
This Monday until 4 p. m., shuttle buses replace service between Humber College and Finch West stations due to planned signalling software upgrades conducted by Metrolinx. Regular LRT service resumes around 4 p. m. that day!
