About 900 employees from the Casino Ajax and Pickering Casino Resort are on strike after their union rejected a tentative agreement earlier this week. The strike began on Friday. Outside the Pickering casino, picketers assembled at an intersection, chanting “equal work, equal pay!” as they demonstrated. Greg Weaver, president of Unifor Local 1090-which represents casino staff like housekeepers, cashiers and security personnel-stated that workers at the Pickering and Ajax locations earn less than those at other casinos in the Greater Toronto Area under the same management while performing identical jobs.
