A crash on Highway 17 between Storyland and the Bruce Street exit in Renfrew last Thursday morning took the life of a 19-year-old man from Ottawa. Renfrew – A collision on Friday morning at the Highway 17 intersection with Storyland Road, just west of Renfrew, resulted in the tragic death of a 19-year-old from Ottawa. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Renfrew Detachment are looking into the crash that occurred at 6:30 a. m., involving an SUV and a tractor trailer. Firefighters from Horton Township and paramedics from Renfrew County were called to provide immediate assistance. The truck was traveling west while the SUV was heading east. The force of the collision knocked off the front driver’s side wheel of the truck’s cab. The SUV ended up on the highway, while the tractor trailer, which was carrying Coca-Cola products, came to rest in an eastbound ditch facing west. Highway 17 remained closed between Storyland Road and Bruce Street until early Saturday morning due to damage caused by the crash. Although it seems that the fuel tank held up during impact, the oil pan was ripped off the truck, requiring repairs to be made to the road surface. That section of roadway was repaved on Monday.
