Nearly three years ago, around 200 inmates at Maplehurst Correctional Facility in Milton, Ont. faced strip searches, zip ties, and pepper spray during a violent episode that lasted over a day. Since that event, several sentences have been either reduced or dismissed, including one for first-degree murder from 2022.
The provincial ombudsman has initiated an investigation to uncover what truly happened during the incident and why prison officials allegedly misrepresented the facts.
