Two individuals sustained serious injuries, with one person facing life-threatening conditions, after a head-on crash in Whitby.

According to Durham police, around 2:15 p. m. on Friday, July 17, officers responded to a report of a collision near Lake Ridge Road and Highway 407.

The investigation revealed that a Hyundai SUV was heading south on Lake Ridge Road while a Mitsubishi SUV was exiting the 407 off-ramp.

The Mitsubishi SUV entered the intersection, which caused the Hyundai SUV to swerve from its lane and collide head-on with a Dodge minivan traveling north on Lake Ridge Road.

Police reported that the 24-year-old driver of the Hyundai SUV suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma center in Toronto. A 77-year-old passenger in the Dodge minivan received critical but non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a Toronto trauma center.

The 69-year-old driver of the Dodge minivan had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit arrived at the scene to carry out an investigation, resulting in road closures in the area for several hours.

An ongoing investigation is looking into this incident. Police are asking anyone with cell phone videos, dash cam footage, surveillance recordings or information related to this crash to reach out to D/Cst. Lan of the Collision Investigation Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5216.

If you wish to provide information anonymously, you can contact Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit www. durhamregionalcrimestoppers. ca where tipsters may qualify for cash rewards.
