The Waterloo Fire Department responded to a fire on an apartment balcony on Thursday.
This incident was reported around 4:30 p. m. at a residential building located on King St. South.
Fire crews managed to contain the flames to the balcony area, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The response drew significant attention due to heavy traffic in the vicinity, including LRT services.
As a precaution, King St. South was closed temporarily between John St. and Allen St., with the road reopening around 5:30 p. m.
Investigations into the cause of the balcony fire are ongoing, with damages estimated to be under $100,000.
Firefighters battled the blaze while also facing hazardous air quality from drifting wildfire smoke coming from northern Ontario.
