A 911 service outage affecting several areas in Canada, including Toronto, Winnipeg, and parts of Nova Scotia, is slowly being fixed, according to emergency services.
If residents need help but can’t reach 911, they are advised to call any available non-emergency numbers.
Bell’s 911 service was down across Ontario on Thursday morning, as reported by a spokesperson from Toronto paramedics to . They mentioned that normally 911 calls are managed and redirected by dispatchers with the Toronto police, but some calls did get through in the morning.

Nova Scotia also faced disruptions in service. Anyone unable to connect with 911 should try using a landline, Wi-Fi calling, or switching carriers, as suggested in a Facebook post by the province’s Department of Emergency Management.
The statement encouraged people to contact non-emergency lines for their closest emergency facility or service if immediate help is needed.
Winnipeg police shared on social media platform X that their 911 service was interrupted for over half an hour on Thursday but has since been restored.
Where Has Service Been Restored in Ontario
Service has resumed across the Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto and the Durham, York, and Peel regions.
Toronto police urged residents on X to use 911 for all emergencies involving police, fire, and medical situations. They clarified that the phone number provided earlier during the outage should only be used for non-emergencies.
The disruption affected various regions at different times. In Toronto, service was unavailable for more than an hour and a half while York experienced about a 16-minute downtime on Thursday morning.
Waterloo Regional Police stated on X that their service was back online as of 6:22 a. m.
Windsor police informed via X that their service resumed at 5:21 a. m., just over half an hour after alerting the public about the initial outage.
Const. Trevor Mc Kenna from Hamilton Police indicated that their 911 lines were down for roughly an hour starting at 3:30 a. m., but are now fully operational again.
London police confirmed that the technical issues affecting their 911 service were resolved by 4:52 a. m.
How to Reach Services Disrupted Across Ontario
Niagara regional police mentioned on X that emergency services can be accessed through their non-emergency line at 905-688-4111 or by contacting one of their eight local district offices directly.
The Ontario Provincial Police released information regarding “intermittent outages” impacting several areas in the province and stated they are working quickly to restore full service.
The OPP also noted that their non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122 is fully functional and officers continue responding to calls. They urged residents not to dial 911 for updates or testing if it’s not an emergency situation.
North Bay police announced on Facebook that they are still experiencing disruptions with their 911 services. Residents can alternatively reach them at either 705-472-1234 or 705-497-5555 or contact local services directly.
