We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Barbara Ann Paquette at the Sault Area Hospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2026, at the age of 87.

She is now with her late husband and best friend, Darcy. She was the daughter of George and Carmel Sorochinsky. Proud mother to Jon Frolick (Suzanne Morley) from Canmore, Alberta, Karen Van Landeghem (Marcel), and Jodi Paquette, both residing in Sault Ste. Marie. Adoring Nanie to Jessica Cavaliere (Rob). Loving grandmother of Mia Morley (Jeff) from Edmonton, Alberta; Joelson Morley (Catriona) from Borden, Ontario; and Annabelle and Alexis from Sault Ste. Marie. Much loved sister of Frank Sorochinsky (Jo) from Ottawa, Ontario. Treasured aunt to Kristine Lee (Chris) and great-aunt to Katie from Ottawa, Ontario.

Barb will be remembered for her lively personality, her sense of humor, and all the joyful moments she created with those lucky enough to know her. She loved her family deeply-her children and grandchildren were everything to her.

Barb was affectionately called Maw by her children’s friends. She had an amazing talent for making all “her kids” laugh with her bold comments and sharp wit. Her humor was one-of-a-kind; she had a big heart and always welcomed any kid who hung out at her home. Maw was their den mother, cheerleader, supporter-and undoubtedly one of the funniest women ever known. Her memory will live on.

When granddaughter Jessica Kristine came along, she became Nanie-a truly unique presence in their lives. Equal parts funny and outrageous, she became Jes’s biggest fan while also taking on honorary Nanie status for many of Jes’s friends like Dana, Britney, and Adam-embracing them as family with open arms while sharing laughter and granting them more freedom than their parents might have preferred. Some of Jessica’s best memories are those spent with Nanie & Papa at Fred’s Trailer Park where laughter filled the air amidst card games that drew crowds in delight. When Jes met Rob he managed to impress Nanie right away; she happily boasted about how much she loved him-and admired his hard work!

Nanie enjoyed dancing, soap operas, reading tabloids like National Enquirer and People magazine; playing Bingo; scratching tickets; wearing jewelry that sparkled just like she did! She cherished reading books or watching movies-she could recite quotes long after seeing them! Nanie could transform a five-minute story into a half-hour spectacle filled with dramatic flair-and infectious laughter that made everyone smile wider than before! The world feels quieter without hearing her voicemails or witnessing her larger-than-life spirit around us now-it leaves a gap that can’t be replaced but brings comfort knowing every time family & friends gather together-sharing stories or playing Bingo-a little piece of Nanie stays close by.

Known for being playful Barb excelled at April Fools’ pranks year after year fooling her children again and again! Her wonderful sense of humor made people laugh even when times were tough-her legacy will certainly be cherished.

October held a special place in Barb’s heart-it was Halloween season! She eagerly awaited every chance to dress up alongside Darcy in extravagant costumes during this festive time together! Carving pumpkins with Jessica created lasting happy memories for them both which always brought joy during autumn’s magic! Never missing an opportunity celebrate life fully-she’d often be last person leaving parties unwilling let go any moment fun!

A devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan as well-she would frequently call brother Frank discussing latest game highlights!

The Garden River Bingo Hall will definitely miss its number one “frequent flyer.” Barb relished double headers played alongside Suzanne & Jackie back during glory days-they remain favorites among countless memories made together playing cards till dawn breaking under starlit skies-with music echoing love shared between family & friends gathered round fire pits sharing stories throughout nights past each summer day spent together feeling endless joy radiating warmth throughout hearts connected forevermore!

Anyone familiar with Barb knew how much sparkly things meant everything for her too-all shopping requests included clear instructions ensuring each item contained glittery elements either clothes or accessories alike adored hearts angels confirming certainty being guardian angel watching over family members-from above now encouraging fun even if strict rules exist regarding having too much enjoyment without alerting spirits dwelling nearby surrounding realms still guiding choices wisely chosen here below along paths walked daily onward journey lived fully bright shining light illuminating lives touched by love shared within moments captured forever gratefulness fills hearts recalling joys linger far beyond passing years gone!
