Elizabeth (Betty) Marie, 94 years old and a resident of Southbridge Pinewood, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, just four days before her 95th birthday, after a brief illness. Betty was born on June 30, 1931 to Thomas and Winona Mc Kee and lived her whole life in Thunder Bay. During high school, she joined the special commercial program at the Vocational Institute (which later became Selkirk) and started her career at the Provincial Lab. On June 9, 1952 she married Edwin (Ted) Wyer, and they shared 59 wonderful years together until his passing in 2011. They bought their first house on Francis Street where they welcomed two sons, Brian and Thomas. Betty lived there until 2022. Life was full of adventures; they loved camping and traveling with the boys in the camper that Ted had built. Ted enjoyed fishing with the boys while mom often accompanied them, looking for blueberries to pick along the way. Raising two boys had its challenges over the years that kept mom active but she always said “life is great if you don’t weaken” and she never did. She worked at Lakehead Videon which later became Maclean-Hunter and then Shaw Cable, retiring as office manager in 1989. Adventures continued when mom signed both herself and dad up for skiing lessons at age 50 where they excelled. They would often have a quick dinner before heading out for evening runs at Mount Mc Kay and enjoyed ski trips to Banff and Austria. After retirement, mom and dad spent 13 winters in Mesa, Arizona where mom took up Hardanger embroidery, clogging, and golf. One of mom’s favorite roles was being Nanny to her six grandchildren who fondly recall camping trips with Nanny and Papa or sleepover movie nights complete with toast and cheese whiz. Mom also liked volunteering at Mc Kellar Hospital as well as Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre while being a member of the Elks Clown band group. She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Betty is survived by her sons Brian along with his children Gabrielle (Tyler); Shayalyn; great-grandchildren Bryson and Blair; as well as Tom, his wife Debbie along with their children Christopher (Amanda), great-grandchildren Aidan, Mya, Linette, Kina; Alyssa Punt (Darren), Leanna (Kyle); along with other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Ted; parents Thomas and Winona Mc Kee; brothers Walter and Robert (Ethel); grandson Brian Jacob; great-granddaughter Athena Hope Elizabeth; nephews Walter and Robert Mc Kee; great niece Billy-Jean Mc Kee; among other relatives. Cremation has taken place according to her wishes without any service planned. A private family interment will occur later on. If desired, donations can be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital which would be greatly appreciated by the family who also extends heartfelt thanks to Drs Habjan, Sandoval, Janhunen for their care through the years as well as staff from Hummingbird Kingfisher at Southbridge for taking such good care of mom.
