After a great year, billiard championships are returning to Chatham for the next couple of years.
An event took place at the John D Bradley Convention Centre in February, with over 600 participants coming to the area. The Championship was fantastic for CK, with local officials stating it brought an economic boost of at least $105,000.
Due to the success of the championship, organizer Ronda Clement has made arrangements with both the convention centre and Holiday Inn to host events for two more years.
“The space is the big thing,” said Clement, pointing out that the staff at both venues were wonderful to collaborate with.
There will be two events in 2027 and another two in 2028, and there’s hope for even greater participation.
“We’ll have anywhere between 700 and 1,000. I do have the Holiday Inn booked for both events, pretty much every room,” Clement added.
Clement has run her own pool hall, Strokers London, for 22 years. She shared with CK News Today that pool is gaining popularity.
“Pool is on an upswing. I’m excited we can offer a junior program. I love having the kids come and play, and Chatham is great,” Clement mentioned.
Every year will feature an Ontario Championship along with a Valley National 8-ball League Association (VNEA) Canadian Championship.
The Ontario Championships will include singles events for 8-ball and 9-ball as well as scotch doubles and team competitions in addition to an 8-ball junior division. These tournaments are scheduled from February 3 to 7 in 2027 and from February 2 to 6 in 2028.
The VNEA Canadian Championships will consist of recreational levels along with copper, bronze, silver, and gold divisions. Participants can join singles or team events in addition to scotch doubles or a junior division focused on 8-ball. This event is planned from March 24 to 28 in 2027 and from April 4 to 9 in 2028.
