Peterborough police report that a 22-year-old man from Markdale, Ont., has died after he entered a body of water and didn’t come back up.

In a news release on Saturday, the Peterborough Police Service stated they were called to Beavermead Park beach on Friday evening, shortly after 7:30 p. m.

When officers arrived, they pulled the man from the water and tried to perform life-saving measures.

He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The beach at Beavermead Park was closed for some time but has since reopened, as per the update from Peterborough police on Saturday.
