A 59-year-old man from Norfolk County lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Tillsonburg on Wednesday morning, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The accident occurred around 8:30 a. m., as reported by the OPP, who mentioned that Vienna Road was closed between Simcoe Street and Old Vienna Road for several hours while they investigated.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, died at the scene, police confirmed.

“I’d just like to extend my deepest condolences to all family members and friends that are affected by this tragedy and also like to thank the good Samaritans for providing assistance,” OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said in a video posted to social media.

Copper Thieves Target Cemetery Vases Near Aylmer: Police

Copper thieves searching for recyclable metal seem to have stolen vases from gravesites at a cemetery near Aylmer.

The Ontario Provincial Police in Elgin County stated they received two reports this week regarding stolen copper vases from Aylmer Cemetery, located just south of the community on Imperial Road in Malahide Township.

The first report came last Friday, followed by another complaint made on Monday, according to the OPP.

In a news release on Wednesday, police indicated they believe someone accessed the property between June 9 and 13 and took vases that families use on graves for flowers.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or possible video footage to reach out at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The investigation is ongoing, police mentioned on Wednesday.
