Authorities are looking into a train derailment that took place in St. Catharines.

The incident occurred this morning, just east of Glendale Avenue.

According to the Niagara Regional Police, traffic on Glendale Avenue is not affected.

No injuries have been reported, and CN Police are handling the investigation.

CN reported that polyethylene, a non-hazardous material used for making household plastics, leaked from one of the railcars; however, there’s no threat to public safety.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation has stated that vessel traffic on the Welland Canal remains unaffected at this time.

GO Transit has announced that service to Niagara will be suspended at Confederation Station until the situation is resolved.

Passengers intending to travel to St. Catharines or Niagara Falls should disembark at Burlington and switch to the 12 GO bus.
