THUNDER BAY – A local man has been charged with impaired and dangerous driving after the Ontario Provincial Police received several 911 calls regarding a vehicle in a construction area south of the Thunder Bay airport.

According to Thunder Bay OPP, the calls came in on June 24, 2026, around 8:30 p. m. The reports mentioned a possible impaired driver on Highway 61 within the active construction zone.

Police intercept vehicle following 911 reports

Officers found the vehicle and pulled it over for a traffic stop.

As per police statements, the driver displayed clear signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene for impaired operation.

Following their investigation, Lawrence BRAY, age 48 from Thunder Bay, has been charged with:

Impaired operation Dangerous operation Impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration over 80

The suspect was given an immediate suspension of his driver’s licence for 90 days. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

BRAY has since been released from custody and is set to appear in the Thunder Bay Ontario Court of Justice on August 19, 2026.

OPP URGES IMPAIRED DRIVING TO BE TREATED LIKE THE SERIOUS CRIME IT ISOPP call on public to report impaired drivers

The OPP emphasizes that road safety is crucial, especially in construction zones where workers and drivers are at greater risk.

People are encouraged to dial 911 if they suspect someone is driving while impaired. Reports about reckless or aggressive driving can also be made to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

None of these charges have been proven in court.
