Canada Day is coming up on Wednesday, and there are lots of local events planned to celebrate the 159th anniversary of Confederation.

It’s going to be really hot. The area is under an orange-level heat warning, with temperatures expected to hit 34 C on Wednesday, but feeling more like 44. There’s also a chance of thunderstorms later in the day.

Make sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and find cool or shady places if you start feeling too warm.

Cambridge

7:45 a. m. to late

Riverside Park

The fishing derby starts at 8 a. m., followed by a parade at 11 a. m. that goes from the corner of King Street and Bishop Street to King Street and Eagle Street.

<p. Beginning at noon, there will be family activities, food trucks, vendor areas, and live music in Riverside Park. Performers include Ella Ruth, Urban Cowboy, and Grace 2.

The day wraps up with fireworks.

Mc Dougall Cottage open

11 a. m. to 4 p. m.

89 Grand Ave. S., Cambridge

The cottage will host guided tours along with crafts for kids and mini-ice cream and shortbread sandwiches available. Admission is by donation.

Kitchener

12 p. m. to late

Downtown Kitchener

A whole afternoon and evening filled with family-friendly activities and music await you.

Performers include Christian Miles, DJ Canada Day Party with Twenty Five Roses, Steve Strongman, and Glass Tiger.

The night will finish off with fireworks near city hall; no events or fireworks will take place in Victoria Park.

Doon Heritage Village reopens

11 a. m. to 4 p. m.</P

Keen Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, 10 Huron Rd., Kitchener</P

Doon Heritage Village is reopening after renovations on Wednesday! There will be music from Errol Blackwood and Injah Band, Jesse T., and The Vaudevillian along with dance lessons and face painting activities available for all ages. Food can be bought on-site as well. Admission is free!</P

Bursting Through Time Event

This fun event runs from noon until 4 p. m. P– Schneider Haus, Kitchener

4 PM – 10 PM:

Waterloo Park
The community picnic kicks off around four o’clock! Bring your own snacks or grab something tasty from food trucks nearby.
There’ll be gigantic games set up for everyone along with artist pop-ups and an art market too. The entertainment lineup features MC Master T , Waterloo Warriors Band , The Mixtape , a circus performance by Kate Mior ; AJDIDIT ; Errol Blackwood & Injah Band ; Daniel Kieta among others!
