The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF) is now just the fourth organization to earn a Decade Award from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority.
This foundation, which is a registered charity, is being recognized for its contributions to the watershed community starting in the 1970s and continuing onward.
“What we have accomplished has been achieved thanks to the dedication of hard-working volunteers and the generosity of the people in this watershed community who donate and who support our work and our fundraising events,” ABCF Chair Charles Miner said while accepting the award.
Since its founding in 1974, the foundation has focused on protecting water quality, improving soil health, and enhancing habitats for all living creatures in the watershed. It has its own Board of Directors but collaborates closely with the conservation authority and local communities to gather funds, build partnerships, and secure conservation lands.
This year, in celebration of its 80th anniversary, the conservation authority is presenting Decade Awards. Previously honored recipients include member municipalities, Ontario parks, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for their efforts in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
